Other, Amrut Prajapati murder
Kalaburagi, Karnataka / Rajkot, Gujarat
“Kishore Balkrishna Bodke is a co-accused in the Amrut Prajapati murder case who was arrested in December 2024 after ten years on the run. Bodke, accused of compiling target lists of Asaram's critics, was harbored at a trust ashram in Karnataka.”
Kishore Balkrishna Bodke was a member of the Sant Shri Asaramji Bapu Ashram network who worked in administrative and security roles. Following the filing of rape complaints in 2013, Bodke became involved in a covert group of followers dedicated to targeting critics. The police identified him as a key coordinator who compiled target lists of whistleblowers, including Dr. Amrut Prajapati.
Following the murder of Dr. Prajapati in June 2014, Bodke was named as a co-conspirator in the FIR. He immediately went absconding, initiating a decade-long search by the Gujarat Police. To evade arrest, Bodke was harbored by the cult's trust, living in hiding under a false identity at an Asaram ashram in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, where he managed local properties.
In December 2024, acting on a tip-off and digital tracking, a team from the Rajkot Police Crime Branch raided the Kalaburagi ashram and arrested Bodke. His arrest after ten years on the run was a significant development, exposing how the cult's trust continued to harbor fugitives and fund their activities long after Asaram's conviction.
Bodke was extradited to Gujarat to face trial for murder and criminal conspiracy. His arrest provided additional evidence of the coordinated campaign to subvert justice, and his trial is currently ongoing in the Gujarat courts. He remains under judicial custody in Rajkot, while his defense team has petitioned for bail.
